Gruta do Lapão is different from the other limestone caves. It is one of the largest Quartz caves in South America and the second largest in Brazil.

The measurements are huge: it is 1 km in length, 50m tall and the entrance to the cave is 10m wide. Bisected by the Lapão River, it was exploited by mining from 1845 to 1871. It is 10 km walk in total to and from Lençóis.
